Brendan Rodgers confirms halt in Gylfi Sigurdsson talks

Brendan Rodgers admits that he is yet to begin contract negotiations with Gylfi Sigurdsson over a potential permanent deal at Swansea.

Swansea City boss Brendan Rodgers has admitted that he is yet to begin negotiations with Hoffenheim loan midfielder Gylfi Sigurdsson.

The 39-year-old manager has been vocal about his desire to keep the playmaker, who is on a temporary contract at the Liberty Stadium until the end of the season.

Reports have suggested that Sigurdsson's German club have prevented the 22-year-old from discussing a permanent deal with the Premier League side.

"He is still a Hoffenheim player," said Rodgers. "He has had a wonderful effect on the group and I know he thoroughly enjoys it here, but we have been unable to sit down and discuss anything so until that happens then the situation remains the same.

"He is a loan player who is benefiting from playing with a wonderful group of players and we are benefiting from his qualities.

"We can see he fits perfectly into our style and we complement each other well but we will see what happens between now and the end of the season."

Sigurdsson has netted five goals since he arrived on Welsh soil in January.
