Gus Poyet looking for Sunderland response

Sunderland boss Gus Poyet admits that he wants to see his side put in a strong performance against Arsenal off the back of their 8-0 defeat to Southampton last week.

Sunderland boss Gus Poyet has revealed that he is looking for a response from his team following their 8-0 hammering at the hands of Southampton last week.

The Black Cats equalled their record defeat at St Mary's Stadium, and the Uruguayan has urged his side to bounce back with a strong performance against Arsenal at the Stadium of Light later today.

"I want to go back to basics," Poyet told the club's official website. "I want to see the team performing and defending in a certain way, being on their game, being difficult to beat and taking advantage of the opposition's weaknesses.

"This week the idea was to analyse the last game and focus on Arsenal because it is a difficult game and it has been a few years since we beat them at home in the league."

Sunderland are 17th in the Premier League ahead of their clash with the Gunners.
