Sunderland's Fabio Borini eyeing striker role

Borini eyeing striker role

Sunderland forward Fabio Borini is eyeing a regular place as the lone frontman for his side for the rest of the season.

The 22-year-old started up front on his own and scored in the Black Cats' defeat to Manchester City in the Capital One Cup final.

Borini told the club's official website: "It's my natural position and role, so I can play there at any time in any game and do my job, because that's my nature.

"I've been playing on the left for most of my time here because of the necessity of the game, but against Manchester City there was a different request from the head coach.

"I played up front and felt I gave a good performance. We'll see what happens in the next game."

Sunderland face Hull City in the quarter-finals of the FA Cup on Sunday.
