Jan Vertonghen 'wants new Tottenham Hotspur contract'

Vertonghen 'wants new Spurs contract'

Tottenham Hotspur defender Jan Vertonghen allegedly remains keen to sign a new contract.

Since leaving Ajax for the Premier League outfit in 2012, Vertonghen has made a total of 294 appearances in all competitions.

However, as it stands, the Belgium international has less than a year left on his contract, which will provide him with an opportunity to speak to foreign teams in January.

According to Sky Sports News, the 32-year-old would prefer to extend his stay at Spurs past the end of the season.

The report claims that Vertonghen's stance has not changed while working under Mauricio Pochettino or his replacement Jose Mourinho.

Defensive teammate Toby Alderweireld is also said to be open to penning fresh terms.
