Tottenham transfer news: 10th loan exit confirmed as record-breaker joins Championship club

Spurs loans hit double figures as teenage record-breaker joins Championship side

Tottenham Hotspur attacker Yang Min-hyeok has joined Championship outfit Portsmouth on loan for the 2025-26 campaign.

The 19-year-old heads back down to the second tier following a brief stint with Queens Park Rangers in the second half of the 2024-25 campaign, where he scored two goals and provided one assist in 14 matches.

Following his return to Hotspur Way, Yang made an appearance in Spurs' 0-0 friendly draw with Luton Town last month and was also selected for the Lilywhites' pre-season tour of Asia, but he did not play any minutes in the Far East.

In spite of the exit of compatriot Son Heung-min to Los Angeles FC in an MLS record deal, Yang was always expected to head out on loan for the coming season in order to gain valuable first-team minutes.

Now, the 2006-born winger will represent Portsmouth for the next 10 months, a move that left Pompey head coach John Mousinho delighted as he offered his reaction to the club's official website.

Yang joins Portsmouth on loan from Spurs as Mousinho reacts to transfer

"Yang was an extremely highly rated player when he first came over to join Spurs in January," Mousinho said. "He then went straight out on loan to QPR and enjoyed a really strong impact with them in the Championship.

“I remember having the privilege of watching him live in a Friday night game against Derby when he performed so well in a 4-0 victory before coming down to Fratton Park a week later.

“It’s been a whirlwind few months for Yang since he arrived in England and we’re excited to have him at Pompey. We believe he’s a real prospect and know that Tottenham think highly of him.

"This is the next part of his development. He’s direct and exciting in the way that he plays and can really help us achieve what we’re looking for this season."

Yang broke a host of records for Gangwon FC in the K-League before signing for Spurs in January, becoming the division's youngest-ever goalscorer and the youngest player to be awarded the Player of the Month prize.

The 19-year-old is still waiting to make his senior competitive Tottenham debut, although he did make the bench in the Premier League and EFL Cup last season before heading to QPR.

Tottenham transfer latest: Who else could leave on loan this summer?

Including Yang, Spurs have now loaned out as many as 10 players this summer; Mikey Moore, Damola Ajayi, Alejo Veliz, Alfie Dorrington, Will Lankshear, Ashley Phillips, Jamie Donley, George Abbott and Tyrese Hall have also left temporarily.

At least a few more youngsters are expected to depart on loan over the coming weeks, including playmaker Alfie Devine, even though Thomas Frank has lost James Maddison to a devastating ACL tear.

Striker Dane Scarlett and defenders Luka Vuskovic and Kota Takai could also find new stomping grounds for the 2025-26 season, while Manor Solomon and Bryan Gil are both back from loan spells at Leeds United and Girona respectively.

It is not impossible to envisage the attacking duo being offloaded temporarily again, but Spurs will likely try to sell the out-of-favour pair permanently.
