Son Heung-min's record-breaking Tottenham exit confirmed as Daniel Levy delivers touching tribute to Spurs captain

"You were always in the frame" - Son says emotional goodbye as Spurs exit confirmed

Tottenham Hotspur have confirmed the sale of Son Heung-min to Los Angeles FC, bringing an end to the South Korean's glittering 10-year spell in North London.

The 33-year-old confirmed during Spurs' pre-season tour of Asia that he planned to leave the club during the summer transfer window, having achieved everything he felt was possible to achieve in a lilywhite kit.

Son made his final Tottenham appearance in Sunday's 1-1 draw with Newcastle United in South Korea, where he was given a guard of honour by both sets of players after being substituted off in the second half.

Son was believed to have been a prime target for the Saudi Pro League, but the former Bayer Leverkusen man only had eyes for a switch to Los Angeles FC, who are understood to have paid an MLS record £20m fee for the attacker.

Now, the Lilywhites have confirmed Son's emotional exit to the United States, as the former Spurs captain closes a decade-long chapter which saw him etch his name into the Tottenham history books.

Son leaves as the fifth-highest scorer and the highest non-English scorer in the club's history with 173 goals from 454 appearances, while also being one of just 13 Spurs captains to lift a trophy in last season's Europa League success.

The 33-year-old also came up with a terrific 101 assists in a Tottenham jersey, including 71 in the Premier League, more than any other Spurs player in history.

Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy paid a touching tribute to Son as Spurs confirmed his exit to LAFC, saying in a statement: "Sonny is one of the greatest players to ever wear the famous Lilywhite shirt and he has been a joy to watch over the past decade.

"Not only is he a wonderfully gifted footballer, but he’s also an incredible human being who has touched hearts and inspired people throughout the Club and all over the world.

“The Europa League triumph in Bilbao was a truly magical moment in the Club’s history and Sonny lifting the trophy is a perfect lasting memory from his fantastic decade at Tottenham Hotspur.

“Sonny has given so much to this Club, both on and off the pitch, and for that we are forever grateful. We wish him all the best for the future, and he will always be welcome back at the Club as a beloved and cherished member of our Spurs family."

Son sends message to Spurs fans after Los Angeles transfer

Son also bade farewell to the Europa League champions with a heartfelt message of his own, saying: "Dear Spurs fans. You're always in my pictures. Every time I celebrate, I make a memory of you. It's our moment. I make the frame, so I don't forget.

"You welcomed me to North London, you watched me grow. Beautiful moments; the Golden Boot, the Puskas Award, you were there. When I suffered, you were still there. You stayed with me, and I stayed with you.

"I never imaged captaining this team, but I always dreamed that I would win something for you. We won the Europa League, and you all deserve it.

"Thank you for these years. Keep every picture. You were always in the frame. Thank you so much. Love, Sonny."

Los Angeles FC sit sixth in the MLS Western Conference, and Son could potentially make his debut for the Black and Gold in Saturday's showdown with Chicago, before a first home appearance against San Diego FC next month.
