Tottenham transfer news today: What's happening on August 25?

The Cody Gakpo saga took an unexpected turn on Monday, when it was reported that Manchester City have also taken an interest in the Liverpool attacker, whom Tottenham had seemingly been at the head of the queue for until now.

Gakpo accumulated 73 goal contributions in 180 Liverpool appearances and represents a proven Premier League operator who gives De Zerbi the profile he had been seeking throughout the summer, but Spurs must now overcome the added sky blue threat.

Manchester United are also competing with Spurs for wantaway Crystal Palace striker Jean-Philippe Mateta, who has recently engaged in a bitter contract dispute with the Eagles and can leave for nothing in 2027.

Palace supposedly want £26m to sell the Frenchman now, although De Zerbi still has Richarlison and Dominic Solanke on his attacking books, while Omar Marmoush will soon arrive from Man City.

Savinho's signing is also imminent and will take Tottenham's spending to over £300m for the summer window, although the same old issues still arose at the Gtech Community Stadium.

Pape Matar Sarr's situation has also become a summer standoff that began when Tottenham informed the 23-year-old Senegal international he was free to leave and which provoked an angry reaction, including the deletion of all his club-related social media content.

De Zerbi gave further clarity on Lucas Bergvall over the weekend, confirming the 20-year-old Sweden international will remain at the club beyond the window regardless of interest from Newcastle and others, and has now personally committed to the project under the Italian manager.
