Tim Sherwood: 'Jury still out on Erik Lamela'

Tim Sherwood admits that he has not seen enough of record signing Erik Lamela to confirm whether he has a future at Tottenham Hotspur.

Tottenham Hotspur boss Tim Sherwood has admitted that the jury is still out on record signing Erik Lamela.

The £30m summer arrival has been injured for much of Sherwood's time in charge after failing to hold down a regular place under previous boss Andre Villas-Boas.

Sherwood admits that the Argentine has been unfortunate and rubbished claims that he is under pressure to play him.

"There'll be no chance Erik's fit," Sherwood told reporters.

"I read in the paper, or someone told me, that the hierarchy are asking for him to get more opportunities. Chance would be a fine thing, he's injured.

"Can he kick on and be a big player next season? You know what, I haven't seen enough of him. I've got my ideas of who's capable and probably who's not. With Erik, the jury is still out because I haven't seen enough of him. He's been very unfortunate."

Reports have recently linked Lamela with a cut-price move back to Italy.
