Freund "couldn't say no" to Spurs

Steffen Freund has admitted that the offer to become the assistant head coach at former club Tottenham Hotspur was too good an opportunity to turn down.

The ex-Germany international, who spent five years at White Hart Lane as a player, was appointed as part of Andre Villas-Boas's coaching staff last week.

Discussing his new role, the 42-year-old revealed that he is looking forward to working closely with boss Villas-Boas.

"That is what I said to everyone in Germany, to all my friends, that my dream is to one day come back to Spurs," he told the club's official website. "When Daniel Levy and Andre Villas-Boas call you, I think you have to ask to be released from your contract in order to rejoin Spurs.

"It has all happened in just two weeks, I couldn't say no. We spoke about my role, my situation. And, of course, Andre's philosophy, and I already know the philosophy of Spurs."

Freund had been coaching the German youth teams.
