Preview: San Lorenzo vs. Central Cordoba - prediction, team news, lineups

Sports Mole previews Monday's Argentine Primera Division clash between San Lorenzo and Central Cordoba, including predictions, team news and possible lineups.

San Lorenzo will be bidding to end a four-game winless run in all competitions when they continue their Argentine Primera Division campaign at home to Central Cordoba on Monday.

The home side are currently third in the table, boasting 36 points from their opening 19 matches of the season, while Central Cordoba sit down in 15th position, collecting 23 points from their first 19 games.

Match preview

San Lorenzo have not been victorious in any competition since May 20, when they recorded a 2-0 win over Instituto in the league, with Ruben Dario Insua's side failing to triumph in their last four matches.

Los Santos have played twice in the league and twice in the Copa Sudamericana since then, losing to Fortaleza and drawing with Palestino in the South American competition, and losing to Barracas Central and drawing with Colon in the Argentine Primera Division.

Insua's team have picked up 36 points from their opening 19 matches of the season to sit third, though, only one point behind second-placed Talleres and five behind the leaders River Plate.

San Lorenzo have won the Argentine Primera Division on 15 occasions, making them the fifth-most successful team in the competition, with their last triumph coming in 2013.

The Blue and Reds, who were sixth last season, now have back-to-back league games against Central Cordoba and Estudiantes before taking on Estudiantes de Merida in the Copa Sudamericana.

As for Central Cordoba, a record of six wins, five draws and eight defeats from 19 matches has seen them collect 23 points, which is enough for 15th position in the table.

Leonardo Madelon's side have picked up four points from their last two league matches, drawing 2-2 with Colon in their last away game at the end of May before recording a 2-0 win over Huracan last time out.

Lucas Besozzi made the breakthrough in the 24th minute of the team's last game, before Leandro Maciel doubled their advantage late in the first period, and Huracan were unable to launch a response.

In June 2019, Central Cordoba returned to the top flight of Argentine football for the first time in 48 years, and they have finished 18th, 22nd and 16th in their last three seasons at this level.

El Ferroviario have actually only lost one of their last five away league games, which should mean that confidence is high entering this match, although they will certainly be the underdogs against a strong San Lorenzo outfit.

Team News

San Lorenzo will again be without the services of midfielder Jeremias James due to a serious knee injury, but the home side are otherwise in strong shape entering this match.

Andres Vombergar has been the team's main source of goals this season, finding the back of the net on five occasions, and the 28-year-old will continue in the final third of the field.

Adam Bareiro has contributed three goals during the current campaign, meanwhile, and the 26-year-old is expected to lead the line for the home side in this match.

As for Central Cordoba, Matias Laba remains on the sidelines with a hip issue, while Luis Miguel Rodriguez has been ruled out of action with a head injury.

Enzo Kalinski was also forced off in the early stages of the clash with Huracan last time out, which is likely to lead to him missing out here, with Jesus Soraire in line for a start.

Lucas Gamba is the team's leading goalscorer this season with three, and the experienced centre-forward should lead the away side's line in this match.

San Lorenzo possible starting lineup:
Batalla; Perez, Gattoni, Campi; Giay, Sanchez, Braida, Barrios; Vombergar, Bareiro, Cerutti

Central Cordoba possible starting lineup:
Mansilla; Rius, Blasi, Pereyra, Canto, Benitez; Farioli, Maciel, Soraire, Besozzi; Gamba

We say: San Lorenzo 2-1 Central Cordoba

Central Cordoba are capable of making this a difficult game for San Lorenzo, and they will enter this match in strong form, but we are finding it tough to back against the home side, who are looking to triumph for the first time in almost one month.
