Rosenborg vs Tromso - prediction, team news, lineups

Tromso IL will be bidding to make it 10 straight wins in the Eliteserien when they continue their campaign with a clash against Rosenborg at Lerkendal Stadion on Sunday afternoon.

Rosenborg are currently fifth in the Eliteserien table, boasting 27 points from their opening 16 matches of the campaign, while Tromso are second, five points behind the leaders Viking with three games in hand.

Match preview

Rosenborg boast a record of seven wins, six draws and three defeats from their 16 league matches this season, with 27 points leaving them fifth in the table, nine points behind the leaders Viking, who have played a game more.

Alfred Johansson's side will enter this match off the back of a 5-0 victory over Banga in the first leg of their second qualifying round contest in the Conference League.

Rosenborg have picked up four points from their last two league matches, meanwhile, beating HamKam 2-0 before drawing 2-2 with Sarpsborg last time out.

The Trondheim outfit are 26-time Norwegian champions, which is a record, with their last success coming in 2018, and they are not out of the title picture this season, but a big effort is required.

Last season, Rosenborg finished fourth in the Eliteserien to qualify for the Conference League second qualifying round, and they are already in a very strong position in their tie.

As for Tromso, a sensational run of form has seen them win each of their last nine league matches, including a 3-1 success over Bryne last time out, which moved them onto 31 points in the division.

The Boys are second in the table, boasting a record of 10 wins, one draw and three defeats from their 14 matches, and they are only five points off leaders Viking with three games in hand.

Jorgen Vik's side are on a serious roll at this moment in time, and they have the second-best away record in the division this season, picking up 16 points from their seven matches on their travels.

Tromso actually finished 13th in Norway's top flight last season, so it has been some campaign to date for the club, and they are bidding to win the title for the first time.

The Boys have finished second in the Eliteserien on two previous occasions, with that occurring in 1990 and 2011.

Team News

Rosenborg will once again have Noah Holm in the final third of the field, with the 24-year-old scoring 11 times in all competitions during an impressive campaign to date.

Meanwhile, there will be another spot in the final third of the field for Dino Islamovic, with the striker contributing five goals in 14 appearances for the club this term.

Noah Sahsah is out of the match through injury, while Sverre Nypan is no longer at the club, with Manchester City recently completing a deal for the talented youngster.

As for Tromso, Markus Johnsgard is out of the match due to an injury problem.

The visitors have not reported any further issues, though, and there are not expected to be any surprises when it comes to their starting side due to the team's recent form.

Vegard Erlien has been a standout performer for the club this season, scoring eight times in 16 appearances, and he will once again feature in the final third of the field on Sunday.

Rosenborg possible starting lineup:

Tangvik; Witry, Ceide, Germany, Pereira; Zeidan, Selnaes, Vaananen; Holm, Islamovic, Ceide

Tromso IL possible starting lineup:

Haugaard; Cornic, Skjaervik, Guddal, Kinteh, Norheim; Hjerto-Dahl, Edvardsson, Jenssen; Camoes, Erlien

We say: Rosenborg 1-2 Tromso IL

This is a very difficult match to call, as Rosenborg have a lot of quality in their side, but Tromso are on a serious roll at the moment, and we are backing the visitors to put another three points on the board.
