Clifford gets Ireland call

Chelsea midfielder Conor Clifford has been brought in to the injury-hit Republic of Ireland squad for the upcoming 2014 World Cup qualifiers against Germany and the Faroe Islands.

Clifford, 21, who was on loan at Portsmouth earlier this season will join up with his teammates in Malahide this evening ahead of tomorrow morning's training session.

Since naming his squad, Republic manager Giovanni Trapattoni has lost the likes of Sean St Ledger, Glenn Whelan, James McClean and Kevin Doyle because of injury.

Clifford joins Ciaran Clark, David Meyler and Robbie Brady as names to have been added to the squad recently.
