Trapattoni "finished" with Foley row

Republic of Ireland manager Giovanni Trapattoni has hit back at criticism from dropped full-back Kevin Foley.

The 27-year-old said that he felt "betrayed" by his omission from the Euro 2012 squad in favour of Hull City centre-back Paul McShane.

Trapattoni has already explained his decision to axe Foley and has now said that he does not have a case to answer.

"I was betrayed also," said Trapattoni. "But I ask you, is Paul McShane an Irish player or a foreign player? I called in another Irish player, so I don't see the problem.

"I also clarified why. The position is for a defender. I didn't call in a striker or a winger. I am finished with this question."

Trapattoni took charge of Ireland in 2008.
