Roy Keane: 'I want to manage in Champions League'

Republic of Ireland assistant manager Roy Keane insists that he would want to manage in the Champions League if he returned to club management.

Roy Keane has revealed that he would like to manage a side that has qualified for the Champions League if he was to return to club management.

The former Manchester United captain, who has had spells as manager at Ipswich Town and Sunderland, currently works as an assistant manager under Martin O'Neill for the Republic of Ireland.

"If I do ever go back into management, obviously the plan would be to get to the very top. I'm intrigued by the idea of managing in the Champions League," the 43-year-old is quoted as saying by the Daily Star.

"It's a fantastic competition and would bring out the best in me. That is where you want to be. I know it takes a lot of hard work and a lot of luck to get there but I still get that buzz from watching really good games of football.

"I wouldn't be afraid of the challenge. I have learned a lot working with Martin O'Neill and I can look at the mistakes I've made and see that other managers have made those same ones."

Keane won the Champions League in 1999 with United.
