Holders Real Madrid to face local rivals Atletico Madrid in Champions League quarters

Holders Real Madrid will face local rivals Atletico Madrid in the quarter-finals of the Champions League.

Holders Real Madrid will go head to head with local rivals Atletico Madrid in the quarter-finals of the Champions League.

It will be a repeat of last year's final when Real secured La Decima with a 4-1 triumph in extra time over Diego Simeone's side in Lisbon.

Despite last season's triumph, in the current campaign, Real have lost to Atletico in the Super Cup, as well as twice in La Liga and in the Copa del Rey.

Carlo Ancelotti's side will have to travel to the Vicente Calderon for the first leg, while Real's title rivals Barcelona have been drawn away to Paris Saint-Germain.

The Ligue 1 outfit will be without Zlatan Ibrahimovic for the first leg while he serves a suspension, but the Swede is expected to be available for the decider at the Camp Nou, where he spent a season back in 2009.

Portuguese side Porto will take on Bundesliga champions Bayern Munich, who eased their way into the final eight, while Juventus, who secured a 3-1 aggregate win over Borussia Dortmund in the last 16, will face Monaco.

This is the first time in 22 years that an English side has not featured at the quarter-final stage following the exits of Liverpool, Chelsea, Arsenal and Manchester City.

The ties will be played on April 14/15 and April 21/22.
