Reading, Leeds play out goalless draw

Reading and Leeds United have played out a goalless draw in their Championship clash at the Madejski Stadium.

The visitors threatened when Stuart Dallas collected the ball on the edge of the box and drilled a low effort towards goal, but Jonathan Bond made a solid stop.

Leeds almost got in again when a ball was lofted over the top of the Reading defence for the run of Alex Mowatt, but Jordan Obita came across to win the ball with an inch-perfect tackle.

Danny Williams created an opening for himself when he powered through a couple of tackles to raid into the box, but his touch let him down at the vital moment as the ball trickled out of his control.

The Whites came close just before the break when Sam Byram lifted the ball into the box, but Dallas could only guide his header from close range over the bar.

In the second half, both sides continued to struggle in the final third of the pitch as neither could produce the quality to carve out a clear-cut chance.

Orlando Sa almost found a way through when he burst down the right for the hosts, but his effort flew well past the post.

Reading began to up the ante as Williams charged through the midfield to rifle a strike at Marco Silvestri, but his strike sailed well over the bar.

The visitors almost found a way through Reading's defence when Tom Adeyemi weaved his way into the box, but Bond was out sharply to smother the ball at the midfielder's feet.

Chris Wood had one late chance for the Whites, but his effort sailed just over the crossbar. At the other end, Obita had an opportunity from a free kick, but his curling effort was saved by Silvestri as both teams were forced to settle for a point apiece.
