Newcastle United 'to keep Dwight Gayle after failing to bring in replacement'

Newcastle 'to keep hold of Gayle'

Newcastle United will reportedly not offload Dwight Gayle before the transfer window closes this evening.

The former Crystal Palace striker, who ended last season as the Magpies' top scorer in the Championship with 23 goals, has been linked to a move elsewhere.

On Wednesday, reports emerged claiming that Fulham had tabled a £15m bid, but they failed to evoke a sale from Newcastle, who value the striker at around £20m.

According to Sky Sports News, the Magpies were only willing to strike a deal if they were able to sign a replacement, but that has not occurred, meaning that Gayle will stay at the club until at least January.

The 27-year-old is yet to get on the scoresheet this season.
