Newcastle United, Sunderland want Ron Vlaar?

Newcastle United and Sunderland are reportedly interested in signing Ron Vlaar from Aston Villa.

The 30-year-old defender is out of contract at Villa Park this summer, although the Midlands outfit have offered him a new deal.

The Netherlands international has hinted that he would be open to a move elsewhere.

Newcastle and Sunderland are said to be keen to strengthen their defensive options after struggling at the wrong end of the Premier League last season, and the North-East rivals are both looking at adding Vlaar to their squads, according to Clubcall.

Vlaar has also been linked with Manchester United.
