Jonas Gutierrez: 'I have testicular cancer'

Newcastle United's Jonas Gutierrez has revealed that he has testicular cancer.

The 31-year old winger says that he has had a testicle removed and is now recuperating at home in his native Argentina.

"I detected a tumor in a testicle. When I confirmed the cancer, I went home crying," Gutierrez told TyC Sports.

"I came here and I assumed the costs despite having a contract with Newscastle. Money is not important. What is important is the health.

"I had to start chemotherapy. I had the operation in Argentina, I removed the left testicle. I returned to England and Newcastle told me to leave."

Gutierrez, who signed for Newcastle United in 2008, spent last season on loan at Norwich City.
