John Carver: 'Lengthy manager search could cause disruption'

Newcastle United caretaker boss John Carver feels that if his side's search for a new manager is a drawn-out saga it could cause disruption at the club.

Newcastle United caretaker boss John Carver believes that a drawn-out search for a new manager could unsettle the club.

The Magpies are without a manager following Alan Pardew's decision to join Crystal Palace, leaving Carver in charge of their past two matches in the Premier League and the FA Cup.

Newcastle's hierarchy have outlined a shortlist of candidates to interview for the role, including Remi Garde, but Carver feels that they need to make a decision quickly to avoid major disruption at St James' Park.

He told reporters: "I've been in this situation before and it can effect people. You can't just let it drift. You have to make a decision.

"People ask me what are my qualifications well I've got the UEFA Pro licence and that's a starting point. I've worked with some of the best people in the game, Keegan, Dalglish, Gullit, Sir Bob. Good, top people. Different styles of management.

"If they said to me take it to the end of the season I'd be prepared to do the job, no danger of that. I have enough belief in myself and enough time until the end of the season that they'd say to me at the end of the season you've done a good job, keep the job."

Newcastle face Chelsea in their Premier League match at Stamford Bridge later today.
