Ben Arfa 'in talks with New York City'

Former Newcastle United midfielder Hatem Ben Arfa has reportedly opened talks with MLS side New York City FC.

The Frenchman recently expressed his desperation to play football after his proposed move to Nice was deemed ineligible by FIFA last month due to the three-club rule.

The 27-year-old played for Hull City and Newcastle Under-21s during the season, and under French Football Federation rules, playing for the reserves counts as competitive games.

According to the Daily Mail, Ben Arfa's representatives have held discussions with New York City regarding a possible short-term deal as the three-club rule does not come into effect in the United States.

Ben Arfa is also believed to be considering retirement.
