Real Madrid will make a fresh attempt to sign David de Gea from Manchester United this summer, according to a report.

Real Madrid will reportedly make a fresh attempt to sign David de Gea in this summer's transfer window.

De Gea has less than 18 months left to run on his existing contract, but Manchester United are determined to sign the Spain international to a new long-term deal as soon as possible.

The goalkeeper's wage demands are still believed to be an issue, though, and his future in England is far from secure despite a change in atmosphere at Old Trafford since Ole Gunnar Solskjaer replaced Jose Mourinho as head coach.

According to The Mirror, Zinedine Zidane's return to Madrid as head coach will see the European champions launch a bid for De Gea, who came close to joining the club in 2015.

The report claims that Los Blancos are prepared to pay £75m to land the Spaniard, who would replace Thibaut Courtois as number one should he arrive.

De Gea was an unused substitute as United bowed out of the FA Cup at the quarter-final stage with a 2-1 defeat at Wolverhampton Wanderers on Saturday night.
