Manchester United transfer news: Chelsea winger Alejandro Garnacho reflects on manner of Old Trafford exit

'A bad moment for me': Chelsea winger Garnacho reflects on manner of Man United exit

Chelsea winger Alejandro Garnacho has acknowledged that the manner of his exit from Manchester United was "a bad moment" for him.

Garnacho departed Old Trafford with a respectable return of 26 goals and 22 assists from his 144 appearances for the Red Devils.

However, the closing months of his stay involved him being left out of starting lineups from Ruben Amorim and banished from the senior squad.

After weeks of training alone, Garnacho finally completed a transfer to Chelsea, the club which was his preference throughout the summer transfer window.

His best moment at Stamford Bridge to date came on Tuesday night as Garnacho's first-time cross was diverted into his own net by Benfica midfielder Richard Rios, the pivotal moment as Chelsea prevailed by a 1-0 scoreline in the Champions League.

Garnacho speaks on Man United exit

In the moments after the game in West London, Garnacho found himself in front of the television cameras after what was a rare positive occasion for the Argentina international across a six-month period.

Speaking to TNT Sports, Garnacho refused to say 'anything bad' about United, albeit admitting that it had been a "difficult" time for him.

He said: "I think it was a difficult moment there, just training alone. But I have nothing bad to say about the club, my old club Manchester United.

"It was just a bad moment in life but now I’m very happy to be here and to play in this competition and to get the three points today."

Can Garnacho be a success at Chelsea?

Having signed during the closing days of the summer market, Garnacho has been playing catch-up with regards to his fitness.

Enzo Maresca has presented him with four appearances, Garnacho accumulating a total of 153 minutes during that period.

With Jamie Gittens having struggled to make an impact down the left flank, it has only enhanced the 21-year-old's chances of regular game time.

Estevao Willian and Pedro Neto are currently the first-choice wide options, but Garnacho is arguably the first backup behind that pair.

Maresca claimed after the win over Benfica that he had been left impressed with Garnacho, who is a candidate to start against Liverpool on Saturday evening.
