How Manchester United could line up against Arsenal

How Man United could line up against Arsenal

Manchester United will welcome Harry Maguire back from a ban for the meeting with Arsenal on Thursday in the Premier League.

The England defender sat out the draw with Chelsea due to suspension and has not covered himself in glory at all this term, but he will expect to come back into the first XI this week.

Eric Bailly could therefore drop out if United stick with the four-man defence, and Ralf Rangnick's visa situation means that Michael Carrick will take charge of this Old Trafford battle.

Luke Shaw remains doubtful with a head injury, so Alex Telles could be handed another start at left-back while Aaron Wan-Bissaka - who gave away the penalty at Stamford Bridge leading to Jorginho's equaliser - holds his place on the right.

Should the United boss stick with the 4-3-1-2 formation from Sunday's draw, Nemanja Matic, Fred and Scott McTominay could hold their places in a midfield which hardly inspires confidence.

Bruno Fernandes would act as the creative hub in that instance, and Jadon Sancho will hope that his strikes against Villarreal and Chelsea are a sign of better things to come in a United shirt.

Carrick shocked the United fanbase with his decision to bench Cristiano Ronaldo for Sunday's game, but the five-time Ballon d'Or winner will surely take his rightful place up top here.

Man United possible starting lineup: De Gea; Wan-Bissaka, Maguire, Lindelof, Telles; Matic, Fred, McTominay; Fernandes; Sancho, Ronaldo
