Ajax manager Erik ten Hag claims that he is "ready" to take the next step in his career amid links with the permanent Manchester United job.

Ajax manager Erik ten Hag has affirmed that he is "ready" to take the next step in his career amid links with the Manchester United job.

The 51-year-old is thought to be one of the favourites to take over at Old Trafford in 2022 once Ralf Rangnick's time in interim charge comes to an end.

Ten Hag has consistently downplayed links with the role while he focuses on his exploits with Ajax, but the two-time Eredivisie winner believes that the time could be right for him to move on.

Speaking to de Volkskrant, Ten Hag said: "I think I'm ready for it [to move to a top foreign club]. I would be happy to take up that challenge.

"But I'm not chasing it. If it turns out that that step will never come, I will not say that my coaching career has failed. But I think I have sufficient competences to take on that challenge."

Ten Hag has won 139 of his 188 games in charge of the Amsterdam giants, who sit one point clear of Feyenoord at the top of the Eredivisie table.
