James Milner earns Manchester City a late point against Hull City

Manchester City earn a late point with a 1-1 draw with Hull City in the Premier League, thanks to a last-gasp free kick from James Milner.

James Milner's last-gasp equaliser earned Manchester City a point against visiting Hull City this afternoon, as the sides played out a 1-1 draw at the Etihad Stadium in the Premier League.

It was City who were to register the game's first real chance as Gael Clichy whipped in a promising cross for striker Edin Dzeko, only for his header to be kept out by Alan McGregor at the top-right corner.

Hull sought to respond with an opportunity of their own and they almost went in front when Robbie Brady turned in a ball for Ahmed Elmohamady, who guided a header straight against the crossbar from six yards out.

The visitors continued to frustrate City as the home side tried to push forward, this time as Dzeko was put off providing the finish to Clichy's delivery thanks to some visiting pressure inside the box.

Hull's persistence in defence soon paid off as they took the lead in the 35th minute, when David Meyler made the most of some poor City defending to tuck home from close range after a scramble inside the area.

City fans were furious after the interval when they had a penalty shout strangely turned down after Alex Bruce went clean through the back of David Silva inside the area.

The hosts appeared a little short of ideas as the game headed towards a tense conclusion, leaving the returning Samir Nasri to lash a wild effort from distance that was saved in the centre of goal.

It looked as though Manuel Pellegrini's men would be frustrated at home but for Milner, who turned up in injury time to convert a precise free kick into the bottom-right corner to earn his side an important point.
