Manchester City 1-1 Arsenal

Man City 1-1 Arsenal

A late header from Laurent Koscielny rescued a point for Arsenal from their trip to champions Manchester City this afternoon.

The visiting Gunners controlled large parts of the first half without being able to breach the home side's net.

Gervinho had a good chance in the 17th minute but his first touch let him down, while Lukas Podolski fired over the bar in the 25th minute following a cut back from full-back Carl Jenkinson.

However, despite all their pressure, Arsenal found themselves a goal behind at the break. David Silva swung in a corner which goalkeeper Vito Mannone missed, allowing centre-back Joleon Lescott the chance to head into the net, which he took.

Silva was again the creator early in the second half, but teammate Sergio Aguero was unable to convert his through pass inside the penalty area.

Arsenal were still the dominant force though and they almost levelled up proceedings in the 82nd minute, only for Joe Hart to turn Santi Cazorla's rising effort just over the bar.

Nevertheless, from the resultant corner the away side did claim the equaliser. City failed to clear the lines and French defender Koscielny reacted quickest to lift the ball into the roof of Hart's net from eight yards out.

City responded positively and with their very next attack went close to regaining the lead. Skipper Vincent Kompany saw an overhead kick parried clear by Mannone and when Koscielny cleared straight to Aguero, the Argentine fired wide from inside the six-yard box.

The final chance of the match fell to Gervinho, but the Ivory Coast international shot well over the bar when well place on the edge of the box.

Arsenal are now fifth in the Premier League table with the point that they earned, while City are two places below in seventh.
