Live Commentary: Manchester City 1-1 Borussia Dortmund- as it happened

Sports Mole brings you live text commentary of the Champions League Group D fixture between Manchester City and Borussia Dortmund at the Etihad Stadium.

Good evening and welcome to Sports Mole's live coverage of the Champions League group stage clash between Manchester City and Borussia Dortmund.

Roberto Mancini's men lost their opening group game against Real Madrid, despite having twice led at the Bernabeu.

Robert Lewandowski gave Borussia Dortmund the perfect start against Ajax, scoring in the 87th minute to snatch all three points.

Tonight marks the first time these two teams have ever faced each other in competitive action.

The Citizens have a decent record against German opposition, beating Bayern Munich, Hamburg and Schalke and drawing with Borussia Monchengladbach.

Meanwhile, the last game Dortmund won on British soil was against in Manchester, when they defeated United on their way to European glory in 1997.

Follow all the action with us below. Please note that kick off is at 7.45pm.

FULL TIME:Manchester City 1-1 Borussia Dortmund

94 minsGrosskreutz crossed to Piszczek, who knocked it down for Lewandowski... but it just wouldn;t sit right for him.

93 minsKolarov ploughs the ball into the wall. Dortmund break...

93 minsCity get a free kick on the edge of the area as Santana handballs. Reus is booked for dissent.

91 minsSHOT! Lewandowski brings the ball down before unleashing a pile driver that Hart tips round the post.

90 minsFour minutes of added-on time.

90 minsCity may just escape with a point here...

89 mins... AND HE SENDS THE KEEPER THE WRONG WAY!

88 minsThe ball hits Subotic on the arm from Aguero's shot. Balotelli for 1-1...

88 minsPENALTY TO MANCHESTER CITY!

SUBSTITUTION:Sebastien Kehl comes on for Mario Gotze.

87 minsSAVE! Aguero gets a header in on goal, but Weidenfeller palms away.

86 minsSchmelzer whips in a vicious cross, but Hart punches away.

85 minsToure goes into the book for dissent. A show of frustration.

82 minsThat's good news for City. He has been superb tonight.

SUBSTITUTION:Kevin Grosskreutz comes on for Ilkay Gundogan.

81 minsCity look wide open at the back, and I can't see that substitution is going to help matters much. Dortmund are enjoying plenty of spance in City's half.

SUBSTITUTION:Mario Balotelli comes on for Gael Clichy.

75 minsCHANCE! Tremendous play from Gundogan in the middle for Dortmund! He was a terrier in midfield as he won the ball back, before supplying Lewandowski with a spectacular pass. The Pole tried to hit it first time with his right foot, but it arrowed wide. Sitter.

74 minsBalotelli is warming up for City.

SUBSTITUTION:Felipe Santana comes on for Mats Hummels.

72 minsAguero slips Subotic and is surely fouled by Piszczek, but the referee is not interested.

71 minsCHANCE! Kolarov sets Aguero free, but the Argentine's square ball to Dzeko is intercepted by Hummels.

69 minsHowever, he is between the sticks for City and they're still in this game.

68 minsIt's a similar story to that of Madrid, in the sense that if it wasn't for Joe Hart then City would be three or four goals down tonight.

67 minsIt's all Dortmund now as they look to kill the game off!

67 minsSAVE! Gundogan tries to bend one into the top corner with his left peg, but Hart springs across his goalmouth to deny Dortmund once more!

66 minsReus's means that City are still waiting for their first clean sheet of the season.

64 minsCHANCE! Lewandowski slices the City defence open and Reus has the chance to double his and Dortmund's tally, but Hart rescues City once again.

61 minsIt was a catastrophic mistake by Jack Rodwell! He played a pass back without looking, and Reus latched onto it and burst through the City defence. He shot at Hart, who got a hand to it, but could not stop it from going into the net. A deserved goal for the German side.

61 minsGOAL! REUS SCORES FOR BORUSSIA DORTMUND!

57 minsBlaszczykowski goes into the book for a foul on Kolarov.

SUBSTITUTION:Aleksandar Kolarov comes on for Samir Nasri.

56 minsGreat cross from Zabaleta! Weidenfeller flapped at it, but Gotze heads behind for a corner.

55 minsLooks like Aleksandar Kolarov is about to come on for Manchester City...

53 minsSHOT! Piszczek cuts back for Gotze, who sweeps a right-footed effort on goal. Hart saves for a corner.

51 minsDortmund launch a fast attack with Gotze down the right. He finds Lewandowski, who spins and tries to feed the sprinting Reus. However, Zabaleta gets across and makes the important tackle.

50 minsSHOT! Dzeko takes the ball down on his chest and hits it in one movement, but it's straight at Weidenfeller.

46 minsBlaszczykowski thrashes a shot at goal but Nastasic gets his body in the way. It looked like it had to hurt.

45 minsDortmund get the second half underway.

8.47pmThe players are making their way back onto the pitch.

8.38pmIt's 1-0 to Real Madrid in the other game in Group D. Here, Jack Prescott describes the first-half action.

8.36pmYou can read Sports Mole's Half-Time Report, compiled by Subhankar Mondal, by clicking here.

HALF TIME:Manchester City 0-0 Borussia Dortmund

45 minsSAVE! Hart makes another smart stop, this time at point-blank range from Gundogan. Dortmund catch City on the break once again...

44 minsCHANCE! Aguero makes a jinking run through the Dortmund defence, and the ball finds its way to Zabaleta. The Argentine clips a dangerous ball into the box and Silva runs onto it... but blasts over from no more than six yards out. Sitter.

43 minsFantastic cross from the right by Blaszczykowski but no Dortmund player can get on the end of it.

42 minsDzeko is offside again.

40 minsPRESSURE! Mario Gotze has twice been denied by Joe Hart! Firstly, he was through on goal thanks to a neat one-two with Blaszczykowsi, but Hart rushed out to save. Then, a great flick from Blaszczykowski gave Gotze another bite at the cherry but Hart palmed it onto the crossbar. Superb goalkeeping!

37 minsMore tricky interplay from Dortmund, but they could be guilty of trying to be too cute. Piszczek and Blaszczykowski combine well, as do Lewandowski and Gotze. The ball is worked out to Schmelzer but his shot is blocked.

37 minsClichy tries another long ball to Dzeko but the linesman's flag is up once again.

36 minsSHOT! Silva fluffs his clearance and the ball falls to Subotic, who has a crack and is not that far away.

35 minsCorner is cleared and Dortmund break and they now have a corner.

34 minsSHOT! Aguero tires his luck from long range and Weidenfeller gets his fingertips to it and pushes it over the bar. Corner.

33 minsThe Spaniard seems to be suffering from a thigh injury.

SUBSTITUTION:Jack Rodwell comes on for Javi Garcia.

32 minsJavi Garcia is struggling and may have to come off. Jack Rodwell is readying himself on the touchline.

32 minsSome great build up play by Dortmund on the counter attack is wasted by Blaszczykowski. City then break down field but Dortmund get back to quell their attack.

30 minsSHOT! Gundogan has a speculative effort from around 30 yards, but skies it.

27 minsCHANCE! Silva slips another ball through to Aguero, but Weidenfeller saves again.

26 minsLong ball up to Dzeko works, and he chests it down into his path... but the linesman's flag denies his the opportunity to shoot at goal.

23 minsCity seem happy in possession, but it's in all the wrong areas. They're resorting to throwing it up long to Dzeko.

20 minsThe Dortmund fans are now doing a reverse Poznan, which is just bouncing up and down arm in arm.

17 minsThe rain is coming down hard at the Etihad. That hasn't dampened the Dortmund fans' spirits. They're still singing, and their team is giving them good reason to. They've made the better start.

16 minsSchmelzer and Blaszczykowski combine nicely down the left for the German team. They look a threat on both flanks.

11 minsCHANCE! Lewandowski breaks into City's final third, before laying the ball on to Gotze. Reus makes a great run on the outside of him to take Clichy away and allow a shot on goal. Joe Hart tipped it onto the post and out for a corner. Great save.

10 minsDzeko nearly gets in behind the Dortmund defence but Hummels comes to the rescue and clears the danger.

9 minsThe Dortmund fans have not stopped singing. Great support.

8 minsDOUBLE CHANCE! Silva clips a beautiful ball through to Aguero, but Weidenfeller saves well. There is some frantic defending, before the ball breaks to Zabaleta in the area. However, the Argentine blazed over.

6 minsDortmund have targeted the right-hand side. Piszczek threw a cross into the box and Lewandowski got his head to it, but couldn;t direct it on target.

5 minsAn understated five minutes of football. Both teams are trying to get it on the deck but the touches are just a yard too long.

2 minsAguero tries to turn in the box, but is dispossessed by Gotze. He half-heartedly appealed for a penalty, as did the crowd.

1 minWe're off at the Etihad...

7.43pm... but the players are out on the pitch at the Etihad, so if you're staying with me the action is about to get underway!

7.42pmSports Mole also has live coverage of the other match in Group D, as Ajax welcome Real Madrid to the Amsterdam ArenA. You can follow the action with Callum Mulvihill by clicking here.

7.34pmJurgen Klopp and Roberto Mancini are having a bit of a chin wag on the sidelines as they players warm up. Klopp is another man with Premier League eyes on him. He has led Dortmund to two successive Bundesliga titles. His was mentioned when Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur were searching for manager in the summer, although there was never really anything serious.

7.27pmRobert Lewandowski leads the line for Dortmund. He was continually linked with a move to Manchester United over the summer. The Pole could persuade Sir Alex Ferguson to dip his hand in his pocket with a couple of goals tonight! Although, I think he may be happy with Robin van Persie...

7.24pmCity will be desperate for three points tonight after coming so close to winning at the Bernabeu last time out. Dortmund beat Ajax in their opener, and City won't want to give the German champions too much of a head start.

7.16pmSo Mancini has gone for more creativity in midfield, as Samir Nasri comes in for Gareth Barry. Edin Dzeko, who scored the winner against Fulham, is preferred to Carlos Tevez.
