Monaco are three points from safety.

Lyon boss Bruno Genesio refused to get carried away after a 3-0 win over 10-man Monaco.

The hosts moved up to third in Ligue 1 but are 13 points behind runaway leaders Paris St Germain.

Houssem Aouar and Nabil Fekir struck in the first half before Monaco's Aleksandr Golovin was sent off just seconds after the restart.

Ferland Mendy added a third and, after a 1-1 draw in Shakhtar last week saw them reach the Champions League knockout stages, Genesio wants to keep a level head.

He told the club: "After qualifying in Kiev, it was important to maintain our form. I enjoyed our performance tonight. I am still cautious – it's still too early to say that we are consistent. We'll have to wait.

"There are still two very important games to play (Amiens and Montpellier). Qualifying (to the Champions League round of 16) has been very good for us mentally.

"We started the match how we needed to. Golovin getting sent off helped us, but what I liked was that we continued to play."

Golovin's dismissal, after a crude tackle on Fekir, left Monaco facing an uphill battle in the second half and they were well beaten.

Thierry Henry's side remain second bottom, three points from safety.

Speaking to L'Equipe Du Soir, Monaco goalkeeper Diego Benaglio said: "We made things too easy for Lyon tonight.

"We made it too easy for them to create chances, to play, and it's a heavy defeat.

"When you make errors against a side like Lyon with their quality, they're going to score."
