Liverpool's hopes of getting a deal over the line for Crystal Palace's Marc Guehi may have just been handed a boost, as the Eagles have confirmed the signing of Jaydee Canvot from Toulouse.
Guehi's proposed switch to Anfield is currently hanging in the balance after his supposed successor - Brighton & Hove Albion's Igor Julio - gave his priority to West Ham United instead.
Liverpool nevertheless managed to submit a deal sheet for Guehi before the 7pm deadline, giving the Premier League champions until 9pm on Monday evening to finalise the England international's £35m transfer.
While Palace are working to find a successor to Guehi, the FA Cup winners have added one centre-back to their ranks on deadline day, as 19-year-old Canvot has been confirmed as their latest acquisition in a deal worth £20.8m.
"It’s very exciting. Crystal Palace are a really good club with a good sporting project. It's a big step because it's the best championship in the world, so I'm excited to start," Canvot told the official Palace website.
The 2006-born defender played 20 times in Ligue 1 for Toulouse over the past two seasons, and he will wear the number 23 shirt at Selhurst Park.
Palace were also understood to have made a late enquiry for a former Chelsea defender as a Guehi replacement, although that deal never got off the ground.
