Liverpool can afford to keep Mohamed Salah and sign Bournemouth winger Antoine Semenyo in the January transfer window, the latest report has claimed.
A 1-0 victory on Tuesday against Inter Milan in the Champions League has done little to divert focus away from the possibility of Salah's exit in the winter.
The winger's extraordinary criticisms of Arne Slot and the club's hierarchy led to his omission from Tuesday's squad, and his future at Anfield has been thrown into serious jeopardy.
It would be surprising if the Reds did not look to bring in a replacement for the 33-year-old should they look to move him on in January, with Bournemouth's Semenyo strongly linked.
Football Insider report that if Liverpool can mend relations between Slot and Salah, they would be in a financial position to keep the Egyptian while also bringing in Semenyo.
Antoine Semenyo latest: Should Liverpool target Bournemouth winger?
Liverpool may have improved defensively in their past four games, keeping two clean sheets, but their attacking displays have been concerning.
Striker Alexander Isak has only scored once in the league this term, while Hugo Ekitike has failed to score in 15 of his 21 competitive games for the Merseysiders.
Semenyo has scored six goals and provided three assists for Bournemouth in the Premier League so far, and his average of 0.43 goals per 90 and 0.21 assists per 90 are the best returns he has managed in his top-flight career.
Adding Semenyo to the squad would bring back a level of intensity to the forward line that has been missing since the departures of both Luis Diaz and Darwin Nunez in the summer.
Can Salah and Semenyo play together under Arne Slot?
Semenyo has played on both flanks for Bournemouth, but he is at his best when deployed on the left, and his adaptability would theoretically make it possible to play him in the same side as Salah.
However, Slot has recently opted to use a two-striker system, and it is difficult to see how the Bournemouth man would fit into the XI should Salah remain at Anfield.
Isak, Ekitike and Salah would likely be used as three options for the two centre-forward spots, while Dominik Szoboszlai's selection on the right of a four-man midfield would be a near certainty.
Florian Wirtz was signed in the summer for a fee that could rise to £116m, and his exclusion would be unlikely.
It is not clear how Semenyo would fit into Slot's plans with Salah still at the club, though there is no doubting the 25-year-old's quality.
