EFL Cup final: Jurgen Klopp vs. Mauricio Pochettino head-to-head record

EFL Cup final: Jurgen Klopp vs. Mauricio Pochettino head-to-head record

Liverpool head coach Jurgen Klopp and Chelsea manager Mauricio Pochettino will go head-to-head on Sunday afternoon, with the EFL Cup trophy on offer.

Pochettino is looking to secure his first trophy since arriving as Chelsea boss, while Klopp will be bidding to win silverware for the eighth time since moving to Liverpool in 2015.

Klopp is in his final season at Anfield, making his final even more special, while there is pressure on Pochettino to deliver due to the team's Premier League struggles this season.

Ahead of Sunday's contest, Sports Mole takes a look at the overall head-to-head record between the two managers.

Klopp leads the head-to-head record between the two managers, having won seven, drawn five and lost just one of his 13 previous match-ups with Pochettino in all competitions. The German's only defeat to Pochettino came in October 2017, when Pochettino's Tottenham Hotspur side recorded a 4-1 victory over the Merseyside outfit in North London. The first ever clash between the two managers came in October 2015, with Pochettino's Spurs side drawing 0-0 with Liverpool, and the next two fixtures were also level, including a 1-1 draw at Anfield. Klopp's first win over Pochettino came in October 2016 in the fourth round of the EFL Cup, with Liverpool recording a 2-1 victory to progress to the next stage.
Klopp's first Premier League success against Pochettino also came during the 2016-17 campaign, with Liverpool running out 2-0 winners at Anfield, before Spurs thumped Liverpool 4-1 in the capital. Pochettino has lost five and drawn two of his last seven games against Klopp, including a 4-1 defeat for Chelsea at Liverpool in the Premier League at the end of January. However, Chelsea did hold Liverpool to a 1-1 draw on the opening weekend of the current league campaign. This will be the second final meeting between the two managers, with the first one famously occurring in the 2019 Champions League final, with Liverpool beating Tottenham 2-0 courtesy of goals from Mohamed Salah and Divock Origi.
