Leeds United chairman Ken Bates refutes Mick McCarthy rumours

Leeds United chairman Ken Bates has moved to dismiss reports that the Championship club have offered former Wolverhampton Wanderers manager Mick McCarthy a job as head coach.

The Premier League boss was dumped by Wolves on Monday following a string of disappointing results that has dropped them into a relegation battle.

"The world and his wife has applied for this job because it's a good one," Bates told Yorkshire Radio.

"[On Tuesday] a national newspaper said we had already approached McCarthy and offered him the job. I don't know where McCarthy lives or what his telephone number is. It's just speculation gone mad."

It has been suggested that Lee Clark could be in line to take the Leeds vacancy following his shock dismissal from League One club Huddersfield Town today.
