Huddersfield Town confirm that Lee Clark has been dismissed from his post as manager after three years in charge.

Huddersfield Town have confirmed that manager Lee Clark has been sacked from his post at the League One club.

The 39-year-old coach has been sensationally dismissed from his position following three years at the club, with no indication that the former Newcastle United midfielder was in danger of losing his job with the Terriers.

"This was a very difficult decision - one not taken lightly or in response to one result," club chairman Dean Hoyle said in a statement on the club's official website. "Concerns have been raised over recent weeks.

"Lee and his coaching staff have put their all into the job over the past three seasons and he has made a huge contribution to the club.

"However, with 16 matches to go we still have an opportunity to achieve promotion and we have made this change with this in mind."

Previous reports have claimed that Clark is a top target for Championship side Leeds United, who are without a head coach following the departure of Simon Grayson at the start of the month.

The managerial position at Wolverhampton Wanderers has also become vacant following the dismissal of boss Mick McCarthy on Monday.

Huddersfield, who currently sit fourth in the League One table, have appointed Academy manager Mark Lillis as temporary coach while the club search for a permanent replacement.
