Michael O'Neill keen for Kyle Lafferty to secure move away for more football

Northern Ireland manager Michael O'Neill urges Kyle Lafferty to secure a move away from Norwich City so that he can play more first-team football ahead of Euro 2016.

Northern Ireland manager Michael O'Neill has urged Kyle Lafferty to either break into the Norwich City team or secure a move away so that he can play first-team football regularly.

Lafferty was top scorer for his country as they qualified for Euro 2016, the first time that they have reached the finals, but he is yet to start a game for Norwich all season, making only two substitute appearances.

Leeds United have expressed an interest in signing the forward, and O'Neill welcomes any opportunity for his star forward to gain more playing time.

"I've had absolutely no involvement in [the Leeds interest] at all, but the most important thing for me is that Kyle gets playing," PA quotes O'Neill as saying.

"It's a hard situation. It's November now and he hasn't started a game for his club. That's not an easy situation to deal with.

"There's no secret and he knows it himself, to be at his best he needs to be playing."

O'Neill was speaking after last night's 1-0 win over Latvia, which was Northern Ireland's first victory in a friendly for seven years.
