Everton remain unbeaten

Everton have continued their unbeaten start to the Premier League season with a 3-2 win over Newcastle United at Goodison Park.

The hosts took a 3-0 lead into half time courtesy of a brace from Romelu Lukaku and a Ross Barkley strike, a deficit that Alan Pardew's side could not overturn despite second-half goals from Yohan Cabaye and Loic Remy.

Lukaku's first goal came after just five minutes when he linked up with Kevin Mirallas before firing a first-time shot past Tim Krul.

Lukaku turned provider for the second goal, finding Barkley with a lovely pass that the youngster coolly converted to double his side's lead.

The Belgian striker got his second of the match in the 37th minute, taking advantage of a mistake by Krul to tap the ball in.

Newcastle started the second half much brighter, hitting the post after just two minutes when Yoan Gouffran's dinked finish from a Vurnon Anita pass came back off the woodwork.

The Magpies did get a goal in the 51st minute, with Cabaye smashing an effort into the top corner from 25 yards out.

Hopes of a dramatic late comeback for the visitors were raised when Remy poked home an effort in the 89th minute, but Everton held on to ensure that they move fourth in the table.
