Everton promise "firm and far-reaching action"

Everton have vowed to take "firm and far-reaching action" against fans that threw missiles on the Goodison Park pitch during Saturday's Merseyside derby.

Video evidence has shown that Liverpool's Andy Carroll, Craig Bellamy and Luis Suarez all had bottles and coins hurled in the direction during the second half of their side's 2-1 defeat.

The Toffees have confirmed that they are working closely with Merseyside Police to identify those who targeted the Reds players.

"We are fully aware of the incidents which occurred during Saturday's derby game," said the club's director of communications Ian Ross. "We are currently working with Merseyside Police on collating and analysing all available CCTV footage of the incidents. "If we can identify any supporter who threw anything, and we mean anything, on to the pitch on Saturday we will take immediate firm and far-reaching action. "This behaviour is totally unacceptable and will be rightly condemned by all right-thinking Evertonians, and that is 99.9% of our fan base."

The weekend's match was the 216th time that the sides have met.
