Leighton Baines: 'Everton must work hard for form to change'

Everton defender Leighton Baines says that the club should not 'just expect' their form to change and that only hard work will improve their record this season.

Everton defender Leighton Baines has said that the club should not "just expect" their form to change and that only hard work will improve their record this season.

The Toffees are without a win in eight games ahead of Sunday's clash with Watford and are still searching for a permanent manager after sacking Ronald Koeman.

The club spent £150m in the summer transfer window on new faces but Baines, a defensive regular for caretaker boss David Unsworth believes that their players alone are not enough to transform their season.

"The vast majority of players will, at different times in their careers, have been exposed to tough matches and adversity," Baines told the Liverpool Echo.

"You can draw on those things and know that, more often than not, you will have turned it round. And you will have experienced good times after those periods when you struggled.

"While you are aware of that, the only way is to believe and to work hard. Not just expect it to happen."

Everton's last league win came on September 23 against Bournemouth.
