Phil Jagielka delighted for John Stones

Phil Jagielka reveals that he was proud to see Everton teammate John Stones make his England debut in the Three Lions' 3-0 victory over Peru at Wembley.

England defender Phil Jagielka has admitted that he was delighted to see Everton teammate John Stones make his debut for the Three Lions.

The 20-year-old replaced Leighton Baines with 15 minutes to play in the 3-0 win over Peru at Wembley to make his first senior appearance for the national team having earned a place on the standby list for the World Cup.

Jagielka told reporters: "It is brilliant for John to have made his debut. He has been delighted to be part of this set-up and he wasn't even sure if he was going to be on the bench or not on Friday, so to actually come on for your senior debut is fantastic.

"The game had long since finished and he was still smiling. John is a great guy and hopefully there will be many more caps to come."

Stones has travelled with the rest of the England squad to Miami for their final warm-up games against Ecuador and Honduras this week.
