Frank Lampard to be handed England captaincy against Spain

Lampard favourite to captain England

Chelsea midfielder Frank Lampard is tipped to captain England during their Wembley clash with Spain this weekend.

The 33-year-old is expected to lead the Three Lions out in their international friendly in the absence of current skipper John Terry, according to ESPN.

The Blues centre back is being rested for the match against the World Cup winners, but is due to feature against Sweden next week.

"Frank Lampard will be the captain if he is selected and there is every chance that he will be as his experience under these circumstances will be needed," a source is quoted as saying.

"But if not Gareth Barry has captained the team once before, so there is no problem there."

Lampard has netted six goals in Chelsea's last eight matches of the season.
