Phil Jagielka insists that he is still fit to play despite suffering a broken toe.

Everton and England defender Phil Jagielka has allayed fears that he could face a lengthy spell on the sidelines with a broken toe.

The 29-year-old needed the help of a pain-relieving injection in order to feature in the Three Lions' 1-0 win over European and World champions Spain at the weekend.

Despite starting for Fabio Capello on Saturday, the centre back will not play in the side's friendly against Sweden tomorrow at Wembley.

"I'm fit. There is nothing wrong with me other than I've got a little broken toe," said Jagielka. "It's nothing an injection won't take care of. Obviously it numbs the toe for a few hours and it will be a little bit sore for a while.

"There was an agreement with the club that they'd let me play against Spain which was brilliant. It was a small risk but one I was prepared to take.

"It will take four weeks to mend without playing but double with playing. I've got a few more weeks with injections yet. I get paid to play football so if I've got to have an injection to do so, it's simple."

Jagielka is expected to be fit for the Toffees' match against Wolverhampton Wanderers in the Premier League this weekend.
