England are reportedly prepared to be without the services of Marc Guehi for the World Cup qualifier in Serbia on Tuesday night.
The 25-year-old has experienced an extremely busy summer, nearly signing for Premier League champions Liverpool on deadline day.
Crystal Palace pulled the plug on Guehi's move to the Reds in the final hours of the window, with Arne Slot's side supposedly unlikely to return for the player in January.
The general consensus is that Liverpool will now wait until next summer, when the centre-back's Selhurst Park contract expires.
Since making the move from Chelsea to Crystal Palace in July 2021, Guehi has featured 161 times for the club, captaining the South London outfit and winning the FA Cup.
England handed Guehi injury scare?
According to The Telegraph, England could be without the services of one of their top defenders for the daunting trip to Serbia this week.
The report claims that centre-back Guehi is a 'major fitness doubt' ahead of an away match against arguably the toughest opponents in the qualification group.
Following the 2-0 victory over Andorra at Villa Park on Saturday, Three Lions manager Thomas Tuchel provided an update on the defender.
Guehi complained of a groin issue at the half-time interval, before going on to complete 76 minutes in the Second City, eventually being replaced by Aston Villa star Ezri Konsa.
With the quick turnaround between fixtures during this international window, the Palace captain could be forced to miss the clash in Belgrade.
Who could play in Guehi's absence?
If Guehi is unable to feature on Tuesday night, the Crystal Palace star would be joining a long list of unavailable England players.
The Three Lions' defence is almost unrecognisable from major tournaments of recent times, especially due to John Stones's injury problems of late.
England could put out a centre-back pairing of Villa man Konsa and Newcastle United enforcer Dan Burn in Belgrade.
