Danny Welbeck: "It was my goal"

Welbeck: "It was my goal"

Danny Welbeck has insisted that he scored England's second goal in their 4-0 victory over Lithuania at Wembley.

The Arsenal forward's header from Jordan Henderson's corner found its way into the back of the net with the aid of a deflection off Tadas Kijanskas as Wayne Rooney lurked on the goalline.

However, Welbeck is adamant that the strike was his as he became the leading scorer in the Euro 2016 qualifiers with his sixth goal of the campaign.

"I told [Wayne] it was my goal and he was like 'alright lad'," Welbeck told the FA's official website.

"I'm obviously happy with that but most importantly we're getting these victories and we're playing well, so that's the main thing and we just want to keep this run going.

"It was obviously a good team performance, we got the goals, we didn't let them into the game and we pressed them high up the pitch as a team. It was a good performance and it was good to get the victory tonight."

Welbeck and Raheem Sterling are likely to miss England's friendly clash with Italy on Tuesday.
