Raheem Sterling, Danny Welbeck likely to miss Italy clash

England boss Roy Hodgson reveals that Raheem Sterling and Danny Welbeck will probably miss his side's friendly clash against Italy in Turin.

England boss Roy Hodgson has admitted that he is likely to be without Raheem Sterling and Danny Welbeck for his side's friendly clash against Italy.

Both players were on the scoresheet in the Three Lions' comfortable 4-0 win over Lithuania in their Euro 2016 qualifier at Wembley to maintain their 100% record in Group E.

However, Hodgson has revealed that Sterling will require an injection on a toe injury, while Welbeck is struggling with a knee problem, which is likely to rule them out of the clash in Turin.

He told ITV Sport: "It's two blows in a way because I've always known Raheem Sterling has been waiting for an injection in his toe - he has been playing through an injury for a while now.

"He does ever so well when he does play through it but I've always known that he needed this injection. I agreed with he and Brendan that he would play tonight's game which is of course the qualifier, but that he would have the injection.

"If we're unlucky we're going to lose him and Welbeck, which is a blow for us, not only because they played well tonight but because they're an important part of a system that we're trying to play."

England face off against Italy on Tuesday.
