Wayne Rooney relishing responsibility with England

Wayne Rooney reveals that he is greatly enjoying his role as England captain as he feels that he is thriving on the extra responsibility.

Wayne Rooney has admitted that he is relishing the responsibility of his role as England captain.

The 29-year-old was handed the position after Steven Gerrard retired from international football following the World Cup.

Rooney has found his form for Roy Hodgson's men, netting four goals in Euro 2016 qualifying to help the Three Lions win all of their five matches in the campaign so far.

"It is a responsibility I'm enjoying having as team captain," the Manchester United striker told reporters.

"Hopefully with the experience I've had I can pass that on to younger players. A lot of people try to help you but it's best when you learn on your own.

"When you're a young lad you make mistakes and you have to learn from them which makes you a better player."

Rooney is two goals shy of Sir Bobby Charlton's goalscoring record of 49 strikes for the Three Lions.
