Chelsea transfer news: Tyrique George 'reacted' in specific way after missing out on Fulham move

Chelsea starlet 'reacts' in specific way after missing out on deadline-day transfer

Chelsea winger Tyrique George was reportedly left upset when he failed to secure a transfer to Fulham on deadline day.

On Saturday afternoon, the 19-year-old made his 27th senior appearance in a Blues shirt as he replaced the injured Liam Delap during the first half against, coincidentally, Fulham.

That show of faith from Enzo Maresca appeared to suggest that the starlet was guaranteed to remain at Stamford Bridge for at least the first part of the season.

However, reports emerged over the following 48 hours that Fulham had put a £22m proposal on the table that Chelsea were prepared to accept.

George underwent a medical with the Cottagers and was on the brink of finalising a transfer before Fulham withdrew their offer in the final minutes of the summer transfer window, a consequence of Harry Wilson failing to secure a move to Leeds United.

How did George react to failing to leave Chelsea?

According to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, George was upset that the move broken down in the manner that it did.

George is said to have appreciated the opportunity that he had to earn regular football in the Premier League, rather than be viewed as a backup squad member at Chelsea.

Romano adds that the situation will be reviewed in January with a transfer dependent on the amount of game time that George is provided with over the next four months.

With George's contract due to expire in 2027, it currently appears unlikely that a renewal will be considered, something that will only increase the chances of Chelsea's owners looking to cash in on an homegrown talent.

Will George be frozen out?

Maresca has never been shy when it comes to freezing players out of his plans, but that is unlikely to be the case here.

Although Alejandro Garnacho and Facundo Buonanotte - the most recent arrivals to the world champions - will be viewed ahead of George in the pecking order, the amount of games on Chelsea's schedule should mean that George remains an option.

In the short term, he will be viewed as third-choice centre-forward behind Joao Pedro and the recalled Marc Guiu.

On the left flank, Pedro Neto, Jamie Gittens and Garnacho are ahead of him now, so competing with Guiu for a role in the middle may be George's best chance of game time.
