Tyrique George will be remaining at Chelsea after Fulham failed to finalise the £22m signing of the winger.
George was introduced as a first-half substitute when Liam Delap suffered a hamstring injury during the early stages of Saturday's Premier League fixture against, coincidentally, Fulham.
However, despite that show of faith from Enzo Maresca, it has been alleged over the past 24 hours that the 19-year-old could be making the switch to Craven Cottage.
With Chelsea adding Brighton & Hove Albion playmaker Facundo Buonanotte to their squad and Marc Guiu being recalled as a replacement for Delap, everything appeared set for George to leave Stamford Bridge.
Instead, as per The Times and other outlets, Fulham have failed to sign George despite initially handing in a deal sheet prior to the 7pm deadline.
Why is George not leaving Chelsea for Fulham?
The report suggests that Leeds United's failure to sign Fulham winger Harry Wilson was what led to the break down of the transfer.
A medical had already been held earlier in the day, while it was alleged that George had agreed terms over a five-year contract at Fulham.
He will now stay put with the Blues and be kept in the plans of Maresca for the club's upcoming busy schedule which includes Champions League football.
Blessing in disguise for Chelsea?
As a result of £22m being on the table for a homegrown talent, Chelsea's owners will feel like they have missed out on a major boost to their position with the Premier League's and UEFA's financial regulations.
On the flip side, Chelsea get to retain a highly-regarded talent who has been trusted by Maresca for the past year.
Having been deployed as a central striker against Fulham, George will seemingly be viewed as third choice in that position behind Joao Pedro and Guiu while Delap is on the sidelines.
From a negative standpoint, George has less than two years left on his current contract and may feel a lack of faith from the powers-that-be, particularly when he could have also joined Roma earlier this summer.
