Chelsea defender Ryan Bertrand is determined to fight Ashley Cole for a starting role at the Blues.
The 23-year-old has been linked with a move to Liverpool this summer, but he wants to stay at Stamford Bridge and earn his first-team place this season.
Bertrand told reporters: "I see my future being Chelsea's No. 1 left-back. I don't concentrate on trying to dislodge him. I just focus on myself and my game and I'm sure that time will come.
"Being at a club like Chelsea competition is just a way of life. In the back of my mind I'm aware of the World Cup. Hopefully I can get enough games and you never know."
Bertrand has earned two England caps since after making his debut last season.
