Lennon: 'Matthews could miss rest of 2013'

Celtic manager Neil Lennon has revealed that Adam Matthews could be sidelined for up to three months if test results confirm that he has fractured his collarbone.

The Hoops' 2-0 victory over Motherwell was marred by the injury to the 21-year-old, who was stretchered off after 15 minutes following a challenge by Motherwell captain Keith Lasley.

As a result, the Wales international is expected to sit out both World Cup qualifiers with Macedonia and Belgium respectively, and Lennon admits that the lay-off could be significantly longer.

"Our initial fears is it could be a fractured collarbone," he told Sky Sports News. "If that is the case, we could be looking at three months.

"We don't know yet, we haven't had any word back from the hospital yet, that's where is at the minute.

"If that is the case, then it puts a big negative on what is a great day for us."

Goals from Anthony Stokes and Kris Commons secured the points, as Lennon's men extended their lead to three points at the summit of the Scottish Premiership table.
