John Guidetti volley rescues Celtic in six-goal thriller

Late Guidetti volley saves Celtic

John Guidetti struck a stoppage-time equaliser as Celtic held Inter Milan to a 3-3 draw in a thrilling first-leg round-of-32 Europa League clash at Parkhead this evening.

The Italian giants looked on course for a first-leg victory after an enthralling first half which saw the visitors lead 3-2.

However, Guidetti climbed off the bench to volley home an equaliser in the closing stages to renew the Bhoys' hopes of a last-16 spot.

Celtic's evening got off to a nightmare start when the visitors grabbed two away goals inside 13 minutes. Xherdan Shaqiri turned home a rebound on four minutes after Craig Gordon spilled Mauro Icardi's shot, before Palacio stroked home a second nine minutes later.

Ronny Deila's side slowly but surely grew into the encounter after the dreadful start and two quickfire goals swiftly sent the home fans into raptures.

First, Stuart Armstrong converted Adam Matthews's clever cut-back on 24 minutes, before Armstrong completed a remarkable turnaround moments later by tapping home from close range.

Deila's troops looked the better of both sides until the break, but Palacio dealt a cruel blow to the hosts' belief by edging Inter ahead once more on the stroke of half time.

Roberto Mancini's side managed to retain that momentum through the interval as Gordon was forced into smart saves from Shaqiri and Gary Medel early in the half.

Second-half substitute Liam Henderson almost rescued a draw for the Scots after his volley was saved by Juan Pablo Carrizo, before Guidetti produced the equaliser.
